Activity Launch Event Spotlights Preventing Violence Against Children and Adolescents in Honduras
In July, the Implementation Science Collaborative’s (ISC) Honduras-based partner COIPRODEN held a launch event for an activity to support the Honduran National Response Plan for the Prevention of Violence against Children and Adolescents in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The National Commission for the Prevention of Violence (COPREV), representatives from Ministry of Security, Vice Ministry of Prevention and Human Rights, Coalition on the Defense of Children, Adolescents and Youth; and the National Institute for Youth joined USAID Honduras and partners from the COIPRODEN strategic alliance network to support reducing violence against children and adolescents in the country. The new activity aims to prevent violence by supporting interinstitutional planning at the national and municipal levels with training programs for public officials, civil society members, rights defenders, and journalists. The activity will also document the learning in each of the three municipalities of focus (La Ceiba, Choloma, and San Pedro Sula) through case study development.
In early 2024, the ISC partnered with COIPRODEN, the coordinator of a network of institutions that support the rights of children and adolescents. COIPRODEN supports national and sub-national efforts in planning and executing the country’s National Response Plan aimed at preventing violence against children and adolescents. These efforts are funded by the USAID Health Evaluation and Applied Research Development (HEARD) project that aims to build implementation science partnerships to accelerate the uptake of evidence to improve health programs and policies.
The presence of high-profile government authorities during the activity launch underscores the Honduran government’s commitment to the cause. Key stakeholders presented and discussed the importance of child and adolescent protection and signed an inter-institutional agreement to support actions in alignment with the National Response Plan.
